Better Source of Defense (BSoD) is a collectible card game that combines turn-based strategy mechanics with elements of real-time interaction. Players assume the role of a field commander leading one of several factions vying for control of critical strategic locations. Success requires deploying reinforcements and guiding them through tactical battles.

Below are the core rules and mechanics of the game:

1. The gameplay proceeds in a series of rounds, each comprising two distinct phases: the Tactics Phase and the Action Phase. During the Tactics Phase, both players simultaneously and secretly deploy reinforcements onto the battlefield by spending a resource called Command Points. Once deployment is complete, the Action Phase begins, where all in-game actions take place.
2. An essential game parameter is Initiative. Each card has an assigned Initiative value that determines its activation order during the Action Phase. Cards with higher Initiative numbers become active earlier in the phase. A card can utilize its abilities once per round when it is active.
3. The game features two types of cards: Units and Actions. Units represent forces engaged in combat, and effective management of these units is crucial for victory. Actions are single-use cards that provide support or special effects to assist your main forces.
4. The primary objective to defeat your opponent is to capture and control strategic locations on the battlefield. Units under your command contribute to this goal by accumulating Victory Points, which reflect your area control and battlefield presence. When your Victory Points surpass those of your opponent, you secure victory. Additionally, alternative winning conditions may be defined depending on the specific game mode.
